"Electricity and Magnetism"

Author and lecturer: Prof. Shmalhausen V.I.:

Duration:

February 7 - May 20 (15 lectures)

Audience:

2nd -year students of faculty of Computational Mathematics and Cybernetics, M.V. Lomonosov MSU (approx. 300 students)

Synopsis:

The course is the second part of the General Physics course and introduces the basics of electromagnetic field theory based on Maxell's equations. The course includes electrostatics, magnetostatics, electromagnetic phenomena, electrodynamics and electromagnetic wave structure and properties. Differential equations for scalar and vector potentials are derived and used to define fundamental electromagnetic field properties. Most lectures are accompanied by vivid demonstration that illustrate the theory. The course includes about 14 seminars where students learn to apply theoretical knowledge to solution of typical physics problems.
